Midwest Region Tour!
Our Mode of Transportation: Cropduster!
We began our tour of the midwest by flying in a crop duster. With this type of plane, we are able to get a closer look at everything below.
Stop 1: St. Louis, Missouri
Here we got a close look at the "Gateway Arch." This is monument represents the "Gateway to the West."

Stop 2: Iowa
Farms! Farms! Farms!
We learned that this state is flat and a perfect place to grow corn.
Stop 3: Dodge City, Kansas
Nicknamed "The Wickedest Little City in the West," Dodge City was an exciting stop. The students imagined what life would be like as a real life cowboy or cowgirl in the 1870's. After listening to a few verses from "Home on the Range," the students worked together to write their own verse. Singing our version of the song helped us pretend that we were on a real-life cattle drive.
Stop 4: Mt. Rushmore, South Dakota
We ventured into the Black Hills of South Dakota. Here was watched a video on two famous monuments that are carved right into the face of the rocky hills: Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. The students got up close and personal with the giant faces of the four presidents whose faces are carved in stone: Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt!
Stop 5: Soo Locks, Michigan
As we flew over Sault Ste. Marie, it was amazing to watch how ships that are over 1,000 feet long are raised up and down.
Stop 6: Detroit, Michigan
In Detroit, we got to visit the Ford Factory. The students learned about Henry Ford and his revolutionary automobile assembly line. Everyone worked in teams of 6, to create an assembly line in the classroom. The finished product was a Ford Model T.

Stop 7: Chicago's O'Hare International Airport
Wowza! This is a giant airport. It's superior organization has made it "The Best in North America" according to voters.
Stop 8: Wrigley Field
We took in a baseball game at the home of the Chicago Cubs. No ball game is complete without singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame!"
